Christian masculinities talk next week

If you’re in Melbourne, feel free to come along to a talk I’m giving next week at Sea of Faith:

Undoing Christian Masculinities

18 March 2010 at 7.30pm

Carlton Library Meeting Room

Corner Rathdowne and Newry Streets

North Carlton

I’ll be talking about the different kinds of masculinities that can be identified within the broad Christian Men’s Movement: specifically, how evangelical men’s ministries promote a traditional masculinity, whereas their Catholic counterparts promote a somewhat “softer” masculinity.

Please, bring your questions. After someone from my 2012 talk at the Atheist Society this week called me a “parasite”, I’m ready for anything 🙂

    1. You’re very kind. I haven’t been back to the Mother Lands since early 2003. Would be good to come back and talk about these things: just need to find the right pot of funding…

      1. Perhaps if you were invited ….. Are you working much with Steven Angelides over there @ Morash? I met him at a Bersani Conference here in University College Dublin last June. Lovely great, great writer too.

        1. Absolutely: always open to such invitations, if anyone in the right position happens to be reading!

I know of Angelides’ work, but we haven’t met. I rarely get out to Monash, as it’s miles away, and I don’t teach. I should make more of an effort.

          1. I wish I was in the right position to invite you. In Ireland at the moment we could do with some considered and erudite debate about masculinities and spirituality. But unfortunately, I am mere grad student and don’t get to sign the cheques (just yet)
I’m giving a paper soon that might interest you. Shall I mail you the abstract?
