The Baptist Men’s Movement, a Pint and a Bag of Crisps

There’s a long history of Christian men gathering for prayer breakfasts dating back to those founded in the 1930s by the right-wing Abraham Vereide. The Baptist Men’s Movement is continuing this heritage with their Bigger Breakfast on October 10. Like most streams of the Christian men’s movement, BMM appeals to stereotypically male characteristics to entice men to their events. However, instead of appealing to the usual absurd military metaphors, BMM has tried something new to snare honest blokes. Can you guess? That’s right, they’ve hooked up with JD Wetherspoons to host their breakfasts in pubs all around the UK. Hats off to BMM: that’s an inspired move.
